I have worked in the telecommunications industry for years and I think VOIP provides the most flexible and cost effective means of communications available. Many open source applications based on the Asterisk platform offer very cost effective PBX systems. A PBX that may have cost $25,000 a few years ago can be built for a fraction of that cost. Add a reputable ITSP and the savings and flexibility only increase. The days of paying for individual phone lines are over. Now a customer can choose one number or more and have it backed by channels. Popular plans include 4 channels, 1 phone number and 2500 minutes of usage. That means you can have 4 simultaneous calls at one time.
