All these freelance sites allow one to present a bid proposal to the client. This, I think is the most opportune moment for one to present the best face as it allows you to address the clients' concerns / requirements and suggest a good solution for it. Just a brief clarification - Guru.com also provides Freelancer Skills Testing via ExpertRating. This is one of several features included within the profile (along with Work Samples, Video Resumes and more.)
